Scholarships and Financial Aid

We understanding that paying for college can be a stressful topic. All incoming and current human environmental sciences students should complete the University of Arkansas general scholarship application and the Bumpers College general application. The scholarship application cycle opens Jan. 1 and closes Feb. 15 of every year. Please visit the Bumpers College Scholarship page for more details about the application process.  

Scholarships for students in human environmental sciences are made possible by generous gifts from many firms and individuals. The criteria for these scholarships include academics, financial need, interests, organizational involvement, etc. Every year the School of Human Environmental Sciences awards approximately $150,000 to our students. By completing the online Bumpers College scholarship application, you will be considered for all of the following scholarships except those requiring a Separate Application.

Scholarship Name:

Eligible applicants must be majors within the School of Human Environmental Sciences (specific majors noted as applicable) and meet the following criteria:

Ethel Owen Adair Scholarship Fund

  • Have finished their 3rd year of college;
  • In the upper quartile of their class;
  • Financial need; and
  • Have qualities of leadership as evidenced by their standing among fellow students.

Hazel Owen Dahms Scholarships

  • Junior or senior;
  • Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Sciences; and
  • Majoring in areas of textiles, clothing and interior design.

Inez Meadors McNeal Scholarship

  • Junior or senior; and
  • Majoring in child development.

John W. White Scholarship in Home Economics Fund

  • Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Sciences; and
  • Sophomore or junior.
  • Preference: Prioritize financial need.

Rachel Nicole Swetnam Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • Undergraduate; and
  • Majoring in Apparel Merchandising and Product Development.
  • Preference: students completing related coursework in a foreign language above the requirements of the major.

Xzin McNeal Endowed Scholarship

  • CGPA ≥ 2.5; and
  • Demonstrate need.
  • Preference:
    • First: Pursuing a major in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering
    • Second: Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Science
    • Third: Pursuing majors in other departments within Bumpers College
    • **Recipient must refrain from the use of all illegal drugs in order to obtain/maintain the scholarship

Manila and Alfred Taylor Scholarship Fund

  • Entering freshmen; or
  • Student returning after at least two years of interruption in studies;
  • Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Sciences;
  • Educational or public service focused studies;
  • Demonstrated high academic ability
  • Incoming: CGPA ≥ 3.0 on a 4. 0 scale (attained through the first semester of the senior year);
  • Returning: Same high school achievement or proficiency in relevant work experience, since graduation, in the field of social science
  • Expressed interest in (with some evidence of commitment), pursuing a public service career in some level of government work in the field commonly known as social science, including but not limited to:
    •  Teaching
    •  Extension and adult education
    •  Legislative or executive staff work
    •  -Foreign service
    •  Legislative affairs work in a public interest, non-profit organization
    •  An elected official

Martin and Pearl Stauber Endowed Scholarship

  • Undergraduate; and
  • Non-traditional student.
  • Preference:
    • Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Sciences; or
    • Pursuing a major in the College of Education and Health Professions.

Jenee Torng Dill Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • Undergraduate student;
  • Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Sciences;
  • Sophomore, junior or senior; and
  • Good academic standing.
  • Preference:
    • Majoring in Food, Nutrition and Health or Human Nutrition and Dietetics;
    • Graduates from The Covenant School in Dallas, TX; and/or
    • Active in community service.

Hazel Taylor Spitze Freshman Scholarship

  • Entering freshmen; or
  • Returning Student;
  • CGPA ≥ 3.0;
  • Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Sciences (education or public service focused studies); or
  • Pursuing a major in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness (government or public service focused studies)
  • Expressed interest in (with some evidence of commitment), pursuing a public service career in some level of government work in the field commonly known as social science, including but not limited to:
    •  Teaching
    •  Extension and adult education
    •  Legislative or executive staff work

  • Undergraduate
  • Preference: Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Sciences.

Lorena Petermann Neumann Home Economics Scholarship

  • Undergraduate or graduate;
  •  UGRD: junior or senior
  • Merit; and
  • Financial need.

Irma Fitch Giffels Scholarship

  • Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Sciences;
  • Scholastic talent; and
  • Financial need.

Juanise Scoggin Johnson Memorial

  • Current or incoming students; and
  • Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Sciences.

Francille Maloch Firebaugh & John D. Firebaugh Endowed Scholarship

  • Arkansas resident;
  • Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Sciences;
  • Majoring in areas of human nutrition or human development and family sciences;
  • Academically strong; and
  • Financial need.
  • If no students with qualifying majors:
    • Students majoring in apparel merchandising, general human sciences or hospitality meeting all other criteria.

Helen Lorita Tomlin Rosenbaum Endowed Scholarship in Human Environmental Sciences

  • Undergraduate or graduate;
  • Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Sciences; and
  • Demonstrated financial need.
  • Preference: Arkansas residents

Beatrice S. Bryson Scholarship

  • Majoring in Human Environmental Sciences

Carnall Hall Alumni Scholarship

  • Majoring in Hospitality and Restaurant management;
  • CGPA ≥ 2.5; and
  • Involvement in extracurricular activities.

Emily-Jane Parette Memorial Scholarship

  • Majoring in Foods, Human Nutrition and Hospitality; and
  • Financial need.
  • Preference:  Student who contribute to the diversity of the student body

Hilliard and Eloise Jackson Scholarship Fund

  • Undergraduate; and
  • Financial need.
  • Preference:
    • First: Crawford or Franklin County residents
    • Second: Arkansas residents

Harold and Iva Hicks Endowed Scholarship Fund

  • Enrolled in Bumpers College;
  • Undergraduate;
  • Majoring in:
    •  Agronomy;
    •  Entomology;
    •  Plant Pathology;
    •  Ag Economics; and/or
    •  Home Economics.

Flossie Wood Boles Endowed Home Economics Scholarship

  • Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Sciences
  • Preference: 
  • From a rural background; and
    • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Additional Preference:
    • Students who are now or have previously been involved in the 4-H program.

Virginia Ferguson Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Junior or senior;
  • Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Sciences; and
  • Active member of Phi Upsilon Omicron (professional honor fraternity for home economics students).

J. L. and Virginia P. Lancaster Endowed Scholarship

  • Undergraduate;
  • Bumpers College student; and
  • Upperclassmen (junior or senior).
  • Preference:
    • Financial need; and
    • Interested in entomology; or
    • Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Sciences.

Bobbye Jo Shepherd Halbrook Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Enrolled in Bumpers College;
  • CGPA acceptable to selection committee;
  • Majoring in some aspect of preschool child development; and
  • Have completed at least two years of college credits (60 hours).

Jo P. and Bill T. Dalton Endowed Scholarship Fund

  • Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Sciences; and
  • Resident of Washington, Benton or Franklin County (Arkansas).

Eula M. Noyce Endowed Scholarship Fund

  • Junior or senior;
  • Enrolled in the School of Human Environmental Sciences; and
  • Majoring in Human Development and Family Science
  • Preference:  Students who can demonstrate financial need.

Ruth C. Turner Endowed Award in Human Environmental Sciences

  • Pursuing a major in the School of Human Environmental Sciences;
  • CGPA ≥ 3.0; and
  • Demonstrated financial need.
  • Preference:
    • Graduate of an Arkansas public high school;
    • Graduate of a high school in a rural area; and/or
    • First-generation college student.

George and Karen Terrell Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • Junior or senior; and
  • CGPA ≥ 2.5.
  • Preference: students who have demonstrated superior leadership skills in support of the hospitality industry and the Human Nutrition and Hospitality Innovation program.

Gerber Endowed Scholarship in Pediatric Nutrition & Food Science

  • Majoring in Food Science, Human Environmental Science, or Horticulture;
  • Fields of study related to foods, (such as fruits and vegetables), and nutrition
  • Preference: students studying in a field with an emphasis on pediatrics.

Murphy Foundation Endowed Scholarship

  • Current UofA student (including NWACC culinary graduates that have transferred);
  • CGPA ≥ 3.0; and
  • Indicated interest in a career in culinary arts.

Ruth E. Johnston Endowed Award in Nutrition and Dietetics

  • Undergraduate;
  • Junior or senior; and
  • Majoring in Human Nutrition and Dietetics (previously HNHI-NUTR).
  • Preference:
    • First: Graduate of high schools in Jackson, Independence, Poinsett or White counties in Arkansas
    • Second: Graduate of an Arkansas high school
