James M. Duncan was born in Hawaii and raised in Sacramento, California.  At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Air Force as a vehicle operator (classified as a 2T1X1).  After two tours to Iraq in support of the global war on terrorism, James separated from the military as a Non-Commissioned Officer under honorable conditions.  After his military career, James received both his B.S. degree in Lifespan Development and M.S. degree in Human Environmental Science from the University of Arkansas, and his Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Science from the Florida State University.  James’s research interests include exploring military related stressors to identify novel approaches to promoting positive outcomes for military service members, veterans, and military families.  His career goals are to better understand factors that influence individual and family functioning among military populations.  Additionally, disseminating this information to other professionals who serve military populations and promote military family readiness and successful transitions from military to civilian life is a top priority for James.
