Our five majors in the School of Human Environmental Sciences will prepare you for a variety of careers working with people as consumers, family members and individuals. With our committed team of faculty and staff, all students are given personal attention and graduate with the education and experience necessary to succeed in their chosen paths.
Apparel Merchandising and Product Development
Apparel Merchandising and Product Development, currently the most popular major in Bumpers College, provides creative and technical training for fashion industry jobs in apparel design, production and marketing.
Human Nutrition and Hospitality Innovation
The HNHI major offers three career paths of Hospitality and Restaurant Management, Dietetics and Foods and Human Nutrition. The HRM option includes classes and labs in The Inn at Carnall Hall on the UA campus and leads to careers in the hospitality industry. Dietetics students prepare for an internship that leads to careers in health care as a Registered Dietitian. HNHI career fields include areas such as sports nutrition, exercise science, journalism, business, health care and others.
Human Development and Family Sciences
The HDFS major can be focused on early childhood or a lifespan concentration. Both lead to diverse and rewarding careers in the “helping professions” and business, especially service industries that require understanding how people interact.
General Human Environmental Sciences
The HESC major includes courses from the other HESC majors and electives to personalize your degree. Career opportunities include teaching Family and Consumer Sciences after completing a one-year Master of Arts in Teaching program.
